Sagardeep Alloys (SAGARDEEP) Q2 FY27 Profit Triples on 144% Revenue Surge, But Margins Stay Slim

The copper products maker saw revenue more than double year-on-year, yet its net profit margin remains under 2%, highlighting persistent cost pressures.

By Vinayak Gandhi, CFA · Created 24 September 2026

Sagardeep Alloys posted a 144% surge in Q2 FY27 revenue to ₹82 crore, with profit tripling. However, net margins stayed below 2% as high copper costs and working capital needs squeezed profitability despite the top-line boom.

For a copper products maker, a boom in industrial demand is a double-edged sword. Sagardeep Alloys rode that wave in the September quarter, with revenue more than doubling from a year ago. Yet the rewards for that scale remained thin, as profitability stayed stubbornly low.

The numbers show a business accelerating sharply. Revenue hit ₹81.97 crore, up 144% from last year and 44% from the June quarter. Net profit reached ₹1.21 crore, a 202% year-on-year jump.

Why the profit surge didn't lift margins

The headline profit jump was impressive, but the net profit margin only inched up 30 basis points to 1.5%. A steep 97% drop in other income, reported by Flash Finance, meant all earnings came from the core business. More importantly, total expenses grew almost in lockstep with sales.

Copper, which can make up 90% of tube cost, saw record prices in September. This transmits directly into working capital needs. While the company reported an operating margin improvement, the final margin shows how little room there is after interest and tax.

The cash flow conundrum

Financing this growth is straining the balance sheet. Research from Arthneeti.com shows current borrowings rose to ₹14.27 crore from ₹9.30 crore in March. H1 operating cash flow was negative ₹6.1 crore despite a profit, according to Flash Finance.

Money is locked up in inventory and receivables to support higher sales. This reliance on short-term debt to fund operations is a key risk if metal prices or demand turn.

The outlook in a volatile market

Management's presentation pointed to expected margin improvement from cost efficiencies, notes Arthneeti.com. The broader market is supportive, with India's copper demand growing 12% in FY26. Yet the company's valuation at a P/E of 24.5 carries a 147% premium to its industry, reflecting high expectations.

The stock was nearly unchanged after the results, per Flash Finance. With no institutional holdings and a micro-cap status, sentiment hinges on converting this revenue burst into sustainable cash generation.

Key Points

  • Revenue more than doubled year-on-year to ₹82 crore, marking a sharp sequential recovery from Q1.
  • Net profit tripled but the margin remained thin at 1.5%, pressured by high raw material costs.
  • Operating cash flow stayed deeply negative in H1 FY27 as working capital requirements surged with sales.
  • The company trades at a significant premium to the industry P/E, pricing in growth but overlooking cash flow challenges.

Hexa Perspective

This quarter confirms Sagardeep Alloys can capture demand in a strong copper cycle. The revenue run-rate now equals 70% of its trailing twelve-month sales, a notable acceleration.

The concern is quality of growth. Margins are wafer-thin and cash is flowing out faster than profit is booked. For the story to hold, the company must demonstrate operating leverage—where profit grows faster than revenue—and positive cash conversion. Until then, it remains a play on volatile commodity prices and working capital management.

How did Sagardeep Alloys' stock price react to the Q2 results?
