The logistics firm's September quarter sales surged on broad demand, but higher costs and a one-off income drop kept net profit flat year-on-year.
Cargotrans Maritime's Q2 FY27 revenue soared 53% YoY to ₹78 crore, yet net profit remained unchanged at ₹3 crore. The margin squeeze highlights cost pressures even as the logistics sector sees robust demand.
For a logistics company riding a wave of industrial and consumer demand, top-line growth is the first sign of success. Cargotrans Maritime's September quarter delivered exactly that, with revenue surging past expectations. Yet the bottom line tells a story of costs rising just as fast, leaving profit unchanged from a year ago.
The numbers show a stark divergence. Revenue climbed to ₹78 crore, up 53% from last year and 30% from the June quarter. Net profit, however, stayed flat at ₹3 crore both year-on-year and sequentially. The net profit margin compressed to 3.8%, down 210 basis points from last September.

The revenue surge aligns with a broader sector recovery. A Knight Frank India report cited by IANS shows India's warehousing leasing rose 12% year-on-year in the July-September quarter, driven by manufacturing and third-party logistics demand. This suggests Cargotrans's growth was broad-based, not reliant on a single large contract.
Expenses grew in lockstep with sales, rising 54% year-on-year. Depreciation doubled, which StockFin.ai notes reflects ongoing investment in operations or subsidiaries. Furthermore, other income fell to zero this quarter from ₹1 crore in the prior March quarter, removing a helpful tailwind. This combination of higher operating costs and the absence of that one-off income fully offset the revenue gains.
Management, according to StockFin.ai, provided no forward-looking revenue guidance, emphasizing governance and risk mitigation instead. The market reaction was muted, with the stock price showing little movement immediately following the November results announcement.
Key Points
This quarter frames the classic scale-versus-efficiency challenge. Cargotrans is capturing robust market demand, evidenced by the revenue leap. Yet its inability to convert that into higher profit indicates either pricing pressure, rising service delivery costs, or both. With the sector outlook firm but no specific guidance from management, the path to improved profitability hinges on operational leverage. Investors are left weighing the promise of top-line momentum against the reality of a margin squeeze that has yet to ease.
