The metals trader reported a net profit of ₹0.91 crore for Q2 FY27, but its core revenue from operations fell 99% year-on-year to just ₹2.19 crore.
SPV Global Trading posted a Q2 FY27 net profit of ₹0.91 crore, supported by non-operating income. Its core metals trading revenue, however, collapsed by over 99% from the year-ago quarter, signalling a major shift in business activity.
For a metals trading company, a quarter with almost no trading revenue is a fundamental shift. SPV Global Trading's September quarter delivered exactly that, with profit sustained by non-core income as its main business paused.
The numbers tell a story of two different companies. Revenue from operations was a mere ₹2.19 crore, down 99.2% from ₹272.61 crore a year ago. Yet, net profit settled at ₹0.91 crore, down a less severe 91.1% year-on-year. This resulted in a net profit margin of 41.6%, a dramatic 3,780 basis point expansion from 3.8% in Q2 FY26.

The high margin is a mirage created by other income. According to a scanx.trade report, other income of ₹3.27 crore made up about 60% of total income, exceeding operational revenue. This income came from interest, dividends, and fair-value gains on a rapidly growing investment portfolio.
The company has pivoted from trading to investing. Its cash pile of ₹243.84 crore at the end of FY26 was largely deployed over the last six months. A Multibagg.ai analysis notes cash fell to ₹1.43 crore by September 2026, while investments ballooned to ₹139.16 crore.
This explains the near-absence of trading revenue. The operational cash flow was negative ₹24.64 crore for the half-year, per scanx.trade, showing the core business is not generating cash. Profit is currently funded by the returns on its redeployed capital.
There was no specific management guidance in the filings reviewed. The broader non-ferrous metals sector faced a challenging quarter, with The Economic Times reporting expectations for a sequential decline in earnings for producers. For SPV Global, the immediate future hinges on investment returns, not metal trades.
Key Points
This quarter confirms SPV Global is in transition, its identity shifting from a metals trader to an investment holding company. The sustainability of earnings now depends entirely on the performance of its new, undisclosed investment portfolio rather than commodity trading margins. Investors are left with a high-margin, low-revenue profile that offers little visibility. The next few quarters will reveal whether this capital reallocation was a strategic pivot or a temporary parking of proceeds from last year's major subsidiary sale.
