Ramdevbaba Solvent (RBS) Q2 FY27 Profit Doubles as Revenue Climbs 24%

Ramdevbaba Solvent's Q2 FY27 profit nearly doubled from the previous quarter to ₹9.32 crore. Revenue grew 24.3% year-on-year, supported by a firm pricing environment for rice bran oil.

For a rice bran oil refiner, the quarter is a story of the spread between input costs and selling prices. Ramdevbaba Solvent's September quarter shows that spread widening, as revenue growth finally translated into a meaningful profit jump after a weak previous period.

The company's standalone revenue rose 24.3% year-on-year to ₹479.3 crore. Net profit surged 40.8% YoY and nearly doubled sequentially to ₹9.32 crore. The net profit margin recovered to 1.9%, up 80 basis points from the March 2026 quarter.

Why margins improved

The profit surge was driven by better operating leverage and a supportive market. According to Commodity Board, rice bran oil prices remained firm in the September quarter due to steady refinery demand. This helped offset broader volatility in the vegetable oil complex.

Other income also provided a significant lift, rising 83.6% quarter-on-quarter to ₹4.81 crore. This non-operational boost, alongside controlled expense growth, explains the sharp sequential profit improvement from a low base of 1.1% margin in Q4 FY26.

The debt overhang persists

Despite the earnings recovery, the balance sheet remains a constraint. The company's debt-to-equity ratio stands at 2.2. Research from Arthneeti notes short-term borrowings increased by about ₹14.8 crore in the first half of FY27.

This high leverage is partly linked to funding its subsidiary, RBS Renewables, which began operating a 200 KLPD grain ethanol plant in April 2026. The company provides corporate guarantees for the subsidiary's borrowings, adding to group risk.

A cautious market read

The market reaction has been muted, with the stock down 33.6% over the past year. Flash Finance tagged the Q2 dividend announcement with a 'positive' impact but noted operating margin expansion is critical for a long-term re-rating.

Management has not provided formal guidance. However, the broader industry outlook from AWL Agri Business suggests the food and FMCG segment can target margins improving from 3-4% to high single-digits over the medium term.

Key Points

  • Standalone net profit nearly doubled sequentially to ₹9.32 crore in Q2 FY27, on a 24.3% YoY revenue increase.
  • A firm price environment for rice bran oil and an 83.6% jump in other income drove the margin recovery.
  • High financial leverage, with a debt-to-equity of 2.2, remains a key watchpoint amid rising borrowings.
  • The stock trades at a P/E of 16.2, a 55% premium to the industry, despite a one-year price decline of 33.6%.

Hexa Perspective

The quarter marks a recovery in profitability, but it comes from a very low base. The 1.9% net margin, while improved, is still thin and highlights the business's inherent vulnerability to commodity spreads.

The ethanol subsidiary adds a new revenue stream but also significant debt and execution risk. For the earnings momentum to sustain, the company needs stable input costs and successful integration of its new projects without further straining its balance sheet.
