Paras Healthcare (PARASHLTH) Q2 FY27 Profit Jumps 70% as New Hospitals Ramp Up

Paras Healthcare's Q2 profit surged 70% year-on-year, driven by rapid occupancy gains at its newer hospitals, though margins contracted sequentially.

Paras Healthcare reported a 70% jump in Q2 net profit, fueled by strong revenue growth from its newer hospitals in Srinagar and Kanpur. However, profitability softened from the previous quarter as costs rose.

For Paras Healthcare, the September quarter was a story of two growth engines. Its established hospitals delivered steady margins, while the newer facilities in Srinagar and Kanpur began to hit their stride, more than doubling their revenue from a year ago.

The numbers show the scale of that ramp-up. Revenue grew 38% year-on-year to ₹511 crore, while net profit jumped 70% to ₹40.35 crore. Sequentially, revenue rose 27%, but profit growth slowed to 10% as the net profit margin contracted by 120 basis points to 7.9%.

The New Hospital Payoff

The primary driver was the rapid scaling of its newest units. According to an ETHealthworld report, the Srinagar and Kanpur hospitals together more than doubled their revenue year-on-year to ₹84.4 crore in the quarter, achieving an 18.7% EBITDA margin. This contributed to a system-wide occupancy jump to 73% for the first half of the year, up from 59% a year prior.

Management, cited by Quartr, highlighted that these newer hospitals have turned “strongly EBITDA positive.” The focus now is on ramping them further, adding beds in existing clusters, and expanding high-end specialty programs like transplants and robotics.

The Margin Squeeze

Despite the top-line surge, profitability eased from the June quarter. The quarterly margin decline points to rising operational intensity alongside growth. Interest costs remained substantial at ₹33.75 crore, though the company used ₹375 crore from its recent IPO proceeds to repay debt, strengthening its balance sheet.

A Flash Finance analysis noted that 88% of the quarter's pre-tax profit came from the core business, with the rest from other income. This underscores that the profit growth was fundamentally operational, not driven by one-offs.

Funding the Next Phase

Expansion remains the central theme. The company is targeting 3,011 beds by 2028, with new facilities planned in Gurugram and Ludhiana. Crucially, Managing Director Dharminder Kumar Nagar told CNBC TV18 that these plans are “fully funded” and no fresh capital is needed for the next 18 months, relying on IPO proceeds, internal accruals, and existing debt facilities.

This is vital for a company carrying a debt-to-equity ratio of 2.16. The planned deleveraging from the IPO should provide more financial headroom to absorb the costs of launching new units without overburdening the income statement.

Key Points

  • Net profit surged 70% year-on-year to ₹40.35 crore, driven by a 38% rise in revenue.
  • New hospitals in Srinagar and Kanpur more than doubled their revenue, lifting system occupancy to 73%.
  • Net profit margin contracted 120 basis points sequentially to 7.9%, reflecting the costs of growth.
  • Management states its near-term expansion pipeline is fully funded, with significant debt repayment from IPO proceeds.

Hexa Perspective

The quarter confirms Paras Healthcare's volume-led growth model is working, with new hospitals transitioning from drags to drivers. The sequential margin dip is a natural cost of this scaling, not a structural decline. The key watchpoint is whether operating leverage at the new units can outpace the interest and depreciation costs of the next expansion wave. With its near-term capex funded, the company has bought time to prove that model before facing fresh capital markets.
