PAOS Industries Q2 FY27 Profit Plunges 74% as Costs Outpace Revenue

The FMCG firm's September quarter profit fell sharply despite higher sales, as total expenses jumped nearly 6% sequentially, squeezing margins.

PAOS Industries reported a 74% sequential drop in net profit for Q2 FY27, even as revenue grew slightly. The squeeze came from a sharp rise in total expenses, highlighting margin pressure as the company plans a strategic shift into soap manufacturing.

For PAOS Industries, a small FMCG player planning a strategic pivot into soap and detergent manufacturing, the September quarter was about holding the line on sales while costs ran ahead. The result was a sharp profit squeeze that questions the sustainability of its recent, fragile recovery.

Revenue inched up 1.1% sequentially to ₹24.16 crore, building on an 8.2% gain from a year ago. But net profit collapsed 74% quarter-on-quarter to just ₹0.3 crore. The net profit margin, which had reached 4.8% in June, contracted by 360 basis points to 1.2%.

The cost surge that erased profit

The story is in the expenses. Total costs rose 5.8% from the June quarter, far outpacing the 1.1% revenue growth. StockFin.ai noted the company moved into a net loss, indicating margin pressure. While interest costs fell, the broad-based increase in other expenses overwhelmed the top line.

This comes as the industry faces persistent input cost inflation. A report by NDTV Profit in July cited Hindustan Unilever hiking detergent prices due to elevated palm oil and packaging costs. Godrej Consumer Products, according to a DSIJ report, expected 7-9% raw material cost inflation in the first half of FY27.

A pivot into a crowded market

The pressure arrives as PAOS plans its future. The company has entered a new project to formulate laundry soap, toilet soap, and detergents, as per its business snapshot. Simply Wall St describes the firm as currently having no significant operations but planning to manufacture these products.

It is aiming for a slice of India's ₹52,000 crore soap and detergent market, projected to grow at 8.6% annually. However, the IndexBox report highlights intense price competition and margin pressure, especially in the mass market where new entrants compete.

Financial health remains a constraint

The quarterly volatility sits atop a fragile financial base. StockFin.ai analysis from November 2026 notes the company appears to be in a financial distress phase, with persistent losses. It carries significant borrowings of nearly ₹53 crore against negative reserves, limiting its flexibility to fund new projects or absorb cost shocks.

Key Points

  • Net profit fell 74% sequentially to ₹0.3 crore, despite a slight revenue increase, due to a 5.8% jump in total expenses.
  • The company is strategically shifting to manufacture soaps and detergents, entering a high-growth but fiercely competitive market.
  • Its financial position remains strained, with high debt and negative reserves, constraining its capacity to invest in the new business.

Hexa Perspective

The quarter shows PAOS caught between two narratives. Its legacy operations are generating revenue but lack pricing power to protect margins from industry-wide cost inflation. Its planned future in soaps offers growth but demands investment and scale it currently lacks.

The path forward hinges on controlling costs in the existing business to generate cash, while navigating the capital-intensive launch into a new segment. Until it demonstrates an ability to do both, its financial recovery will likely remain uneven and vulnerable to commodity price swings.
