Fredun Pharmaceuticals (FREDUN) Q2 FY27 Profit Doubles as Revenue Surges 84%

Fredun Pharmaceuticals' Q2 FY27 profit nearly doubled year-on-year, but the growth is powered by rising debt and a strategic shift into pet care.

By Vinayak Gandhi, CFA · Created 6 November 2026

Fredun Pharmaceuticals reported a 97% surge in net profit for Q2 FY27, with revenue jumping 84%. The blockbuster growth is driven by new pet wellness brands and capacity expansion, though rising debt levels warrant attention.

For Fredun Pharmaceuticals, the September quarter was about proving its ambitious pivot from a traditional drugmaker to a branded healthcare platform could deliver explosive growth. The company's consolidated net profit nearly doubled year-on-year, crossing ₹18.5 crore on an 84% revenue surge to ₹267.6 crore.

The numbers show a business accelerating sharply. Profit grew 41% sequentially, outpacing a 17% rise in revenue, as net profit margin expanded by 110 basis points to 6.9%.

The push into pet care

Growth came from both the core formulations business and newer, higher-margin brands. Management, cited by Multibagg.ai, said pet care, mobility, nutrition and dermaceuticals are in a high-growth phase. The company launched 16 new pet wellness products and a digital platform called PAWTALKS, according to Stockfin.ai.

This strategic shift is capital-intensive. Employee costs rose 28% quarter-on-quarter to support expansion, and depreciation more than doubled year-on-year as new capacity came online. A 40,000 sq. ft. plant at Palghar became operational in October 2026.

The cost of growth

Funding this expansion has meant taking on more debt. Long-term borrowings jumped nearly sixfold to ₹56.31 crore in FY26, reports MarketsMojo. Interest costs have risen 28.5% over the trailing nine months. The debt-to-equity ratio stands at 0.84.

The interest coverage ratio provides some comfort at 4.82 times, but the rising leverage is a clear trade-off for today's growth. Management has guided for annual capital expenditure of ₹30-40 crore for the next few years.

A muted market reaction

Despite the stellar print, the stock fell 1.1% on the results day, underperforming the broader market. MarketsMojo notes the stock trades at a premium valuation, with minimal institutional holding at just 4.13%.

The board's approval to list on the National Stock Exchange aims to broaden the investor base and improve liquidity. For now, the market seems to be weighing the impressive growth trajectory against the rising balance sheet risk.

Key Points

  • Consolidated net profit surged 96.9% year-on-year to ₹18.57 crore, with revenue up 84.2% to ₹267.63 crore.
  • Growth is driven by a strategic expansion into high-margin pet care and consumer wellness brands, alongside the core pharmaceuticals business.
  • Debt has risen sharply to fund capacity expansion, with long-term borrowings increasing nearly sixfold in FY26.
  • The stock's reaction was muted despite the strong operational performance, reflecting concerns over valuation and rising leverage.

Hexa Perspective

Fredun's quarter demonstrates successful execution of its growth plan, with new brands gaining traction and margins improving. The 30-35% blended revenue CAGR guidance for the next three years, noted in prior quarters, appears within reach.

The sustainability of this growth, however, is now tied to managing the increased financial leverage. The company must successfully integrate its pet care acquisitions and scale new products to generate the cash flows needed to service its debt. Investors are right to watch the interest coverage ratio as closely as the top-line growth number.
