Britannia Industries posted steady revenue growth in Q1 FY27, but profit declined sequentially, pulling net profit margin down from the previous quarter's high.

Britannia Industries delivered a mixed performance in the first quarter of FY27. While revenue growth remained healthy compared to last year, profit took a step back from the previous quarter, indicating some pressure on profitability.

Revenue for the quarter ended June 2026 came in at ₹5,000 crore, marking a solid 8.2% increase from the same period last year. Profit after tax (PAT) also showed a robust 14.1% year-on-year rise to ₹593 crore. However, a sequential look reveals a different story: profit fell 12.7% from the March 2026 quarter, even as revenue grew 6.0%. This dynamic pulled the net profit margin down to 11.9%, a notable drop from 14.4% in Q4 FY26, though still an improvement of 60 basis points year-on-year.

A review of the last five quarters shows the company's earnings trajectory.

The table illustrates that while the latest quarter's profit is the lowest in the last four periods, it remains well above the level from a year ago. The trailing twelve-month (TTM) net profit margin stands at a healthier 13.4%.

Key Points

  • The company maintains exceptional return metrics, with a Return on Equity (ROE) of 53.6% and a Return on Capital Employed (ROCE) of 56.5%.
  • Its balance sheet remains strong with low leverage, evidenced by a debt-to-equity ratio of 0.27.
  • The stock trades at a significant premium, with a P/E of 51.6 compared to the industry average of 35.4.

The immediate challenge for Britannia is to defend its profitability and translate consistent revenue growth back into stronger quarterly earnings.
