The regional telecom operator delivered strong Q1 FY27 results, with profit growth outpacing revenue on higher ARPU and improved operational leverage.
Bharti Hexacom's Q1 FY27 profit rose 23% YoY to ₹482 crore, beating revenue growth of 11%. The margin expansion was driven by higher average revenue per user and disciplined cost management.
For Bharti Hexacom, success in its Rajasthan and North East circles hinges on earning more from each customer while keeping a tight grip on costs. The first quarter of FY27 shows it is doing both, delivering a 23% jump in profit that comfortably outpaced its 11% revenue growth.
Revenue reached ₹2,510 crore, up from ₹2,264 crore a year ago. Profit climbed to ₹482 crore, lifting the net profit margin to 19.2%, a 190-basis-point improvement. The quarter extended a steady growth trend, with both top and bottom lines rising sequentially as well.

The profit surge was powered by two engines: higher customer revenue and operating leverage. According to a Motilal Oswal report, wireless Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) rose 5% year-on-year to ₹259, supported by a better subscriber mix and one extra day in the quarter. The company added 210,000 paying subscribers, taking its base to 29 million.
At the same time, expenses grew slower than revenue. Business Standard noted that EBITDA grew 13% YoY, with the margin expanding. This operating leverage, where higher data usage generates revenue without a proportionate cost rise, is key in a capital-intensive sector.
Strong cash generation is rapidly cleaning up the balance sheet. According to a scanx.trade report, net debt excluding leases plummeted 66% year-on-year to just ₹96 crore. The net debt-to-EBITDA ratio is now a negligible 0.2 times.
This deleveraging provides a sturdy platform. Management, as noted in an investor call summary, plans to keep capital expenditure focused on 5G densification and scaling the homes business, using a mix of fibre and fixed wireless access suited to the terrain.
The outlook rests on sustaining ARPU momentum and executing the homes strategy. Management expects customer additions to seasonally strengthen in the second half of the fiscal year. It also anticipates the homes business, where net adds moderated this quarter due to a strategic pivot toward fibre, to revert to its previous growth rates.
The company also benefits from a recent legal win. The Bombay High Court quashed a ₹473.7 crore spectrum charge demand, as reported by CNBC TV18, removing a financial overhang and preserving capital for growth.
Key Points
Bharti Hexacom’s quarter demonstrates the power of regional focus combined with parent Bharti Airtel’s operational expertise. The story is now about quality—earning more per user and generating cash—rather than just adding subscribers.
The path forward seems clear but requires execution. ARPU growth must continue, supported by potential industry-wide tariff hikes. The homes segment needs to regain its rapid growth trajectory post-strategy correction. With a nearly debt-free balance sheet, the company has the financial flexibility to invest where it counts, making its regional growth story one of sustainable compounding.
