Sterlite Technologies posted its highest-ever revenue and profit, driven by hyperscaler contracts and a one-time US tariff refund, while its order book swelled to over ₹35,000 crore.
Sterlite Technologies' Q2 FY27 saw revenue jump 145% YoY to a record ₹2,529 crore, with profit soaring to ₹517 crore. The surge was powered by AI infrastructure demand and a one-off tariff refund, alongside a massive order book providing multi-year visibility.
Sterlite Technologies’ quarter was a story of two powerful forces converging. Surging global demand for AI-ready digital infrastructure met the company's strategic shift towards higher-value optical connectivity, delivering its best financial performance ever. The headline numbers, however, were flattered by a one-time windfall that investors must separate from the underlying operational strength.
Revenue for Q2 FY27 reached a record ₹2,529 crore, up 145% from a year ago and 32% sequentially. Profit after tax soared to ₹517 crore, a staggering 12,825% increase year-on-year. The net profit margin expanded to 20.4%, a dramatic improvement from 0.4% in Q2 FY26.

The core driver was a structural shift in demand. As reported by The Economic Times, hyperscalers building AI data centers require far denser fibre connections than traditional cloud setups. Sterlite Tech secured several multi-year agreements this half, including a $1.2 billion deal with a hyperscaler. This pushed its optical connectivity 'attach rate'—the sale of integrated solutions beyond basic cable—to a record 24%, lifting both volumes and realizations.
The result is an order book that now stands at ₹35,274 crore, as per CNBC TV18. This provides clear revenue visibility, with ₹3,021 crore scheduled for the next quarter and the bulk slated for FY28 and beyond. Management, calling this its "best quarter yet," has raised its long-term margin ambition to 30% under a new growth roadmap.
Beneath the explosive profit growth lies an important qualifier. The company acknowledged, and reports from DSIJ confirm, that the quarterly profit included a one-time net gain of around ₹161 crore from import tariff refunds received by its US subsidiaries. This refund, related to goods imported under a specific US act, directly boosted pre-tax profit.
Excluding this gain, the operational EBITDA margin was a still-strong 27.1%, a 624 basis-point sequential improvement. This shows underlying operating leverage is working, but the headline margin of 33.5% is not a sustainable run-rate. Investors weighing the sustainability of this profit surge must look past this non-recurring item.
The quarter also delivered a crucial balance sheet milestone. The company reported a net debt-free position, with net cash of ₹703 crore. This strength stems from a ₹1,500 crore QIP completed earlier and the quarter's robust cash generation. It provides crucial financial flexibility for a planned ₹1,500 crore, three-year capacity expansion to meet the incoming order wave.
The path ahead is one of execution. With nearly 90% of its record order book scheduled for delivery beyond the next quarter, the company's ability to ramp up production, maintain quality, and convert these orders at healthy margins will be the true test. The AI infrastructure cycle offers a long runway, but it is now a story of delivery, not just demand.
Key Points
The quarter confirms Sterlite Tech is squarely in the path of the AI infrastructure build-out, transforming its growth profile from a cyclical telecom supplier to a strategic connectivity partner. The operational margin expansion, even excluding the one-off, signals this shift is yielding financial results.
The valuation, at a significant premium to the industry, prices in this transformation and the massive order backlog. The investment case now hinges entirely on flawless execution—converting that backlog into revenue at the guided margins while navigating potential input cost pressures and scaling capacity. Any stumble in delivery or a shift in hyperscaler spending priorities would be the key risk to the narrative.
