Shetron (SHETR) Q2 FY27 Profit Triples as Revenue Jumps 50%

The metal packaging firm's Q2 FY27 profit surged 207% year-on-year, driven by robust demand and improved operational leverage.

Shetron's September quarter profit soared to ₹3.22 crore on a 49.5% revenue jump. Margins expanded as the company leveraged higher sales volumes to absorb fixed costs more efficiently.

For a metal packaging firm like Shetron, the story is told in the volume of cans and jackets rolling off its lines. This quarter, those lines were busy. The company posted a 49.5% surge in revenue, its highest in at least five quarters, and profit more than tripled.

The leap in profitability came from sharp operating leverage. A report from ScanX notes that while revenue grew 49%, total expenses rose by only 45%. This allowed fixed costs like depreciation and employee benefits to be absorbed more efficiently over a much larger sales base.

Why the margin squeeze reversed

Material costs actually rose slightly faster than sales, according to the same analysis. The margin win came from holding the line elsewhere. Finance costs remained nearly flat year-on-year, and the company is using supplier credit to fund its working capital needs as receivables and payables both climb.

This operational efficiency turned a strong top line into a powerful bottom line. Profit before tax grew 259% from a year ago, far outpacing the revenue increase.

The demand driving this appears broad-based. Shetron serves food, beverage, and battery sectors from factories in Bengaluru and Mumbai. Industry reports point to steady growth in India's metal packaging market, supported by trends in ready-to-drink beverages and sustainability.

Funding growth without strain

Capacity is keeping pace. The Market Crux newsletter reported the new Mumbai production line is now operational, with lug-cap food-can capacity being expanded in Bengaluru. These projects are funded internally, with half-year operating cash flow at a healthy ₹4.36 crore.

The company's financial stability was also recognized with a credit rating upgrade to [ICRA]BBB-(Stable) in October, just before the results.

Key Points

  • Revenue hit a five-quarter high of ₹90.3 crore, up 49.5% from a year ago.
  • Net profit margin expanded to 3.6%, a 190 basis point improvement year-on-year, driven by operational leverage.
  • The company is expanding capacity in Mumbai and Bengaluru to meet sustained demand, funded by strong internal cash generation.
  • Shetron's credit rating was upgraded in October 2026, reflecting improved financial strength.

Hexa Perspective

Shetron’s quarter shows what happens when capacity meets demand. The margin expansion is genuine, stemming from volume leverage rather than one-off gains. The key question is durability.

With steel prices rising through the September quarter, the ability to keep material cost growth in check will be tested. If current demand holds, the newly commissioned lines position Shetron to continue this run. The stock trades at a slight discount to the industry, pricing in the cyclicality inherent in packaging.
