Sambandam Spinning Mills reported a small quarterly profit after three consecutive losses, but revenue continued to slide, reflecting ongoing challenges in the textile sector.

Sambandam Spinning Mills has managed to return to a small profit in the first quarter of FY27, breaking a streak of three consecutive quarterly losses. However, this flicker of profitability comes against a backdrop of declining sales, with revenue falling both compared to last year and the previous quarter, highlighting persistent pressures in the textile business.

The company reported a net profit of ₹0.38 crore for the quarter ended June 2026. While this is a positive swing from the ₹2.96 crore loss in Q4 FY26, it still represents a 26.9% drop compared to the ₹0.52 crore profit earned in the same quarter last year. Revenue for the period stood at ₹59.98 crore, down 6.1% year-on-year and 11.7% sequentially from Q4 FY26. The net profit margin remained thin at 0.6%, slightly lower than the 0.8% margin a year ago.

A look at the last five quarters shows a volatile earnings path:

The trailing twelve-month (TTM) figures underscore the broader struggle, with a cumulative loss of ₹5.8 crore on revenue of ₹259.73 crore, resulting in a negative TTM net profit margin of -2.2%. This performance has been reflected in the stock price, which has declined 18.5% over the past year.

Key Points

  • The company's return on equity (ROE) stands at -6.81%, indicating it is not currently generating positive returns for shareholders.
  • Leverage remains elevated with a debt-to-equity ratio of 1.73.
  • The interest coverage ratio of 0.39 suggests earnings are insufficient to comfortably cover interest expenses.

For Sambandam, the immediate challenge is to stabilize its top line while defending its fragile return to profitability in a demanding market environment.
