The auto component maker posted steady revenue growth, but its India margins are under pressure from higher raw material and energy costs.
CIE Automotive India reported a 13.9% rise in Q2 FY27 net profit on an 11% revenue increase. While European operations saw a margin recovery, domestic growth was tempered by cost inflation from geopolitical tensions.
For CIE Automotive India, the quarter was a tale of two regions. Its core Indian business drove sales, while a recovering European operation helped protect the bottom line. The result was a steady quarter where profit growth slightly outpaced revenue, even as domestic margins faced a familiar squeeze.
Revenue for Q2 FY27 reached ₹2,633 crore, up 11% from a year ago. Net profit rose 13.9% to ₹243.7 crore. The net profit margin improved to 9.3%, a 30 basis point gain year-on-year. Sequentially, both revenue and profit were nearly flat, reflecting a stable plateau after several quarters of growth.

The domestic business was the clear growth driver. According to the company's earnings call, sales in India jumped 18% year-on-year, supported by robust demand across most vehicle segments. However, this growth came at a cost. Management, cited by CNBC TV18 and Investing.com, said margins in India contracted due to price increases in raw materials, energy, and consumables linked to the conflict in West Asia.
This cost pressure meant that while sales volume grew, the value added per unit was compressed. The company is in pass-through negotiations with customers to recover some of these costs, expecting agreements by the end of the calendar year.
While India's margins narrowed, Europe provided an offset. The region's operations, though facing a stagnant market, saw a significant margin recovery. According to an Inve analysis, the European EBITDA margin improved to 15.9% from 12.5% a year ago, driven by restructuring activities. This turnaround in profitability helped lift the consolidated net profit margin despite the headwinds at home.

The profit growth was supported by operating performance. Management noted on the call that a jump in other income included grant income for the aluminum business, but the core improvement came from the regional mix.
Looking ahead, the company is betting heavily on organic growth in India. Management stated on the AlphaStreet call that capital expenditure in India for CY26 will be almost double that of the previous year, with a similar level expected in 2027. This funds expansions across forging, stampings, gears, and its foundry division.
The order pipeline appears healthy. The company secured about ₹9.7 billion in new orders in India year-to-date, as per the earnings transcript. A key Ford foundry project also began supplies in October after a delay, which should boost the foundry division in coming quarters.
Key Points
CIE Automotive's quarter shows a business successfully navigating a split market. The Indian growth story is intact but is now a game of volume versus margin, with near-term profitability dependent on successful cost pass-through to customers. The European recovery is a welcome stabilizer, though that market offers little top-line growth.
The aggressive capex plan signals confidence in sustained Indian demand, particularly from new EV-related orders. The key watchpoint is whether operational efficiency and customer negotiations can defend margins enough to let the coming capacity additions flow through to earnings, not just sales.
