The industrial packaging specialist delivered its strongest quarter yet, with profit more than doubling year-on-year as expanded volume delivery boosted margins.
Kanpur Plastipack's Q2 FY27 saw profit surge 108% on a 43% revenue jump, driven by higher volumes in its core FIBC business. The net profit margin expanded to 6.8%, signaling improved operational leverage.
For a company that ships over 70% of its flexible industrial bulk containers overseas, a quarter of surging global demand is a direct path to growth. Kanpur Plastipack found that path in the September quarter, delivering a 43% jump in revenue that powered an even sharper 108% rise in net profit. The numbers mark a clear acceleration from the prior quarter, driven by what management calls expanded volume delivery across its operations.
The quarter's strength is visible across the trend. Revenue climbed to ₹236.34 crore from ₹165.25 crore a year ago, while profit more than doubled to ₹16.06 crore. Sequentially, sales grew 16% and profit rose 38%, continuing the momentum from Q1. The net profit margin expanded by 210 basis points year-on-year to 6.8%, as profit growth outpaced the top line.

The margin expansion points to operating leverage kicking in. According to reports from Sahi.com and Univest, the revenue jump was driven by higher volumes of FIBCs and packaging products. With a significant portion of costs being fixed, each additional unit sold carries a higher profit, which explains why the 46.8% rise in operating profit outstripped the 43% revenue growth. This efficiency gain turned a strong sales quarter into a standout earnings one.
Management is not standing still. The company is in the middle of a multi-year expansion, aiming to add 6,000 metric tons of FIBC capacity over five years. According to its Q1 earnings call, the goal is to reach 5,000 tons of production per quarter by Q1 FY28. A new non-woven fabrics facility is also slated for commissioning this quarter, opening another revenue stream. This build-out is funded partly by debt, which is expected to rise from ₹34 crore to about ₹74 crore by this year-end.
The outlook is not without pressure. The RBI's latest survey notes that while manufacturing demand is improving, input cost pressures remain elevated. For Kanpur Plastipack, polypropylene resin makes up the bulk of raw material costs, and its price can swing sharply. Reports also highlight risks from volatile ocean freight rates and increased labor costs. The company's order book, described as stable earlier this year, now shows customer lead times of just 3-4 weeks, suggesting a cautious procurement environment.
Key Points
This quarter demonstrates the powerful operating leverage in Kanpur Plastipack's model when volumes run high. The 210-basis-point margin expansion on a 43% sales rise is the core of the earnings beat. The sustainability of this performance hinges on two factors: the global industrial demand that drives its export-heavy order book, and the company's ability to navigate raw material cost volatility. With significant capacity additions planned and debt set to increase, the coming quarters will test whether this volume-led profit surge is a cyclical peak or a new baseline for growth.
