Globe (GLOBE) Q2 FY27 Textiles Profit Falls 14% Despite 34% Revenue Jump

The textile maker's September quarter shows strong top-line growth, but higher costs and a steep drop in other income squeezed profits year-on-year.

Globe Textiles posted a 34% jump in Q2 FY27 revenue to ₹210 crore, yet net profit fell 14% to ₹3.8 crore. A sharp decline in other income and rising interest costs offset operational gains from new capacity.

For Globe Textiles, the September quarter was a story of capacity meeting demand, but costs taking the reward. Revenue surged 34% year-on-year to a record ₹210 crore, yet net profit fell 14% as a steep drop in other income and higher borrowing costs squeezed the bottom line.

The numbers show a business scaling up but struggling to convert that scale into earnings. While profit improved 31% sequentially from a low base, the net profit margin of 1.8% remains far below the 2.9% posted a year ago.

Why the profit fell short

Revenue growth was driven by enhanced garment manufacturing capacity commissioned last year, as noted by The Tribune. This allowed the company to service higher volumes across domestic and export markets. However, profitability was pressured by a 15-20% increase in raw material costs and higher logistics expenses.

The bigger hit came from a 62.5% plunge in other income to ₹0.75 crore. This, as per Flash Finance, compared to a much higher ₹2.0 crore in the year-ago quarter, which had flattered that period's profit. Interest expense also jumped 31% year-on-year, reflecting higher borrowings to fund operations.

The cash and debt pressure

Financing that growth is becoming a heavier burden. Borrowings rose 24% to ₹208 crore between March and September 2026, according to Flash Finance. This contributed to a debt-to-equity ratio of 1.14 and a thin interest cover of 1.73.

Operating cash flow was negative in both FY26 and the first half of FY27, a sign that earnings are not translating into cash. The company has sought more financial flexibility, securing shareholder approval to increase its authorised share capital, as reported by The Globe and Mail.

A mixed market outlook

The broader textile sector is seeing a split. While fabric and yarn demand is robust, apparel production is contracting due to weak US demand and high costs, notes an Economic Times report. Globe's order book of over ₹100 crore provides near-term visibility, but passing on input cost increases remains a challenge.

Key Points

  • Revenue growth hit a five-quarter high, driven by newly commissioned manufacturing capacity.
  • Net profit declined year-on-year due to a sharp fall in other income and a 31% rise in interest costs.
  • Operating cash flow remains negative, and borrowings have increased, highlighting working capital strain.
  • The company has enhanced its authorised share capital, positioning for potential fundraising.

Hexa Perspective

The quarter confirms Globe Textiles is in a growth phase, but one funded by debt that is pressuring profitability. The core operating margin improved slightly, but the net result is being dragged down by financing costs and the absence of last year's other income.

For the trend to turn, revenue must continue its climb to outpace the fixed cost of debt, and raw material inflation must ease. The ₹100 crore order book is a positive, but the real test is whether the company can generate cash from these operations to sustainably fund its expansion.
