The NBFC's Q2 FY27 results show a five-fold profit jump, driven by a richer product mix, lower credit costs, and disciplined growth.
Poonawalla Fincorp's profit surged 405% year-on-year to ₹375 crore in Q2 FY27. Strong loan growth combined with expanding net interest margins and improving asset quality powered the earnings leap.
For Poonawalla Fincorp, the September quarter marked the payoff from a multi-year shift. The NBFC has moved beyond heavy investment to a phase where loan growth, profitability, and credit health are rising together. Its Q2 FY27 results delivered a 405% surge in profit, proving that disciplined expansion can be highly rewarding.
Revenue rose 70.2% year-on-year to ₹2,624.5 crore, while profit after tax reached ₹374.85 crore. Sequentially, both revenue and profit grew by double digits. The net profit margin expanded to 14.3%, a sharp 950 basis point improvement from a year ago.

Growth was broad-based. Assets under management grew 10.4% quarter-on-quarter to ₹74,008 crore, according to a Yahoo Finance report. The real story was the mix: newer, higher-yielding products like gold loans, consumer durables, and digital prime personal loans contributed 28% of disbursements.
This richer product portfolio lifted yields. Management reported the portfolio yield rose about 45 basis points to 14.08%, while the net interest margin plus fees expanded to 9.26%. At the same time, credit costs fell to 2.19% from 2.40% in the prior quarter. The combination of earning more and setting aside less turbocharged profits.
Crucially, this profitability came with stronger, not weaker, credit foundations. Gross NPA improved to 1.20% from 1.37% sequentially, and net NPA fell to 0.61%, as noted by CNBC TV18. The company's early vintage delinquency metric also fell sharply, suggesting the quality of new loans is high.

CEO Arvind Kapil called this quarter an "inflection point" for a self-sustaining earnings engine, according to an Investing.com report. The strategy of front-loading investments in technology, branches, and collections over the past 18 months is now generating operating leverage.
Management expects AUM to grow at a 35-40% compound annual rate over the next couple of years and sees a path to a return on assets above 3%. However, the market's reaction was measured, with the stock rising 2.15% post-results. One headwind is valuation; the stock trades at a P/E of 54.9, a 210% premium to its industry.
Analyst views are mixed. While the operational performance is strong, Emkay Global maintained a 'Reduce' rating with a target of ₹410, signaling caution on the rich valuation despite improving metrics.
Key Points
Poonawalla Fincorp's quarter shows a lender hitting its stride. The simultaneous improvement in growth, margins, and asset quality is rare and suggests the company's calibrated, tech-driven approach is working. The sustainability of this performance hinges on maintaining this delicate balance.
The critical test will be whether the company can continue to lower credit costs and improve operating leverage even as it adds 400 new branches this year. If it can, the path to a 3%+ return on assets looks credible. Investors weighing the stock must decide if this promising trajectory justifies the significant premium it already commands.
