The auto parts and EV maker posted solid year-on-year growth, but a sharp sequential decline in profit highlights seasonal pressures and margin squeeze.
JBM Auto's Q1 revenue grew 15% year-on-year, but profit fell 47% from the previous quarter. The drop reflects typical seasonality in its electric bus segment and a contraction in net profit margin.
JBM Auto began its fiscal year with steady annual growth but a sharp sequential decline, as its electric bus business follows a typical seasonal pattern. Revenue for the quarter ended June 2026 rose 15% year-on-year to ₹1,442 crore, while profit grew 13.4% to ₹44.26 crore. However, compared to the strong March-ending quarter, revenue fell 22% and profit plunged 47%, with the net profit margin dropping to 3.1% from 4.5%.
According to reports from StockWatch and CNBC-TV18, the steep quarter-on-quarter drop is largely due to seasonality, not deterioration. The company's electric vehicle business, which holds an estimated 25% market share in electric buses, is heavily back-ended, with revenue falling from ₹830.64 crore in Q4 to ₹460.04 crore in Q1. Meanwhile, the steadier auto components division grew to ₹894.12 crore. Management commentary cited by CNBC-TV18 indicates margin pressure from raw material costs, with recovery expected in the second half of the year.
The company's trailing-twelve-month performance shows a net profit margin of 3.9%, higher than the latest quarter's figure. Looking ahead, management has set an ambitious FY27 revenue target of ₹7,000–7,500 crore, with nearly 45% expected from the EV business, supported by an order book of over 9,000 electric buses.
Key Points
The key challenge for JBM Auto will be translating its large order book into consistent quarterly profitability while managing its elevated debt levels.
