Strong US demand and new CDMO contracts fueled a 47% profit rise, though a sequential margin dip highlights cost pressures and forex swings.
Gland Pharma's Q1 FY27 saw profit surge 47% on robust US growth and new CDMO deals. However, net profit margin fell sequentially from 21% to 17.6%, impacted by a swing in forex gains and rising costs.
For Gland Pharma, the story of the last year has been about reigniting growth in its core US injectables market while building a future in contract manufacturing. The first quarter of FY27 shows that push is working, but not without a quarterly cost.
Revenue rose 19.6% year-on-year to ₹1,800 crore, while net profit jumped 47.1% to ₹317 crore. The year-on-year comparison flatters, as it comes off a softer Q1 last year. Sequentially, revenue grew a modest 3.3%, but profit fell 13.6% from the previous quarter's high. The net profit margin settled at 17.6%, a strong 330 basis points higher than a year ago, but down sharply from 21.0% in Q4 FY26.

| Net Profit Margin | 17.6%YoY +23% | 21.0% | 14.3% |
The sequential drop in profit and margin has two clear causes. First, a favorable tailwind reversed: the company booked a ₹3.6 crore forex loss in Q1, compared to a ₹50.8 crore gain in Q4, as noted by Inve.money. Second, total expenses rose 5.8% quarter-on-quarter, outpacing revenue growth. ET Pharma reported this reflected inflationary cost pressure, partly linked to the West Asia crisis.
This masks the underlying operational strength. Both of Gland’s engines fired evenly. The CDMO business grew 20% year-on-year and the B2B generics business grew 19%, each contributing exactly half of total revenue.
Growth was geographically lopsided in the best way. US revenue surged 32% year-on-year to ₹981 crore, driven by new launches like Dalbavancin and multi-vitamins, and volume growth in existing products. Europe grew a solid 11%.

The quarter's most significant development was a strategic manufacturing agreement for 55 sterile injectables. Management, cited by QuarterMark, said it has an annualized revenue potential of $90–100 million, but meaningful revenue is only anticipated from calendar year 2029. It’s a bet on the long-term CDMO strategy, not a near-term boost.
Beyond the forex swing, other pressures are real. Supply disruptions in Saudi Arabia held Rest of World revenue flat. The company is also in a heavy investment phase, spending ₹1,132 crore on capital expenditure in the quarter, with ₹550 crore planned for FY27 to expand vial, ophthalmic, and liposome capacity.
Cash conversion remains clean, with operating cash flow of ₹318 crore nearly matching the reported profit. The balance sheet is robust, with a net cash surplus of over ₹3,200 crore at the end of June.
Key Points
The quarter confirms Gland Pharma's operational recovery is on track, led by the US market and a balanced business model. The 47% profit growth is impressive, but the sequential margin compression is a reminder that the path isn't linear—external costs and currency moves can still disrupt quarterly prints.
The investment case now hinges on execution. The company must successfully ramp its new capacity to serve the growing CDMO pipeline while managing the inflationary cost environment. The long-dated nature of the new flagship contract means investors are being asked to pay for growth that is still years away, making consistent quarterly execution in the core business all the more critical.
