Nuvoco Vistas posted a 78% YoY profit jump to ₹65 crore, but a sharp sequential decline highlights margin pressure from erratic weather and high costs.
Nuvoco Vistas' Q2 FY27 profit rose 78% year-on-year to ₹65 crore, driven by higher cement volumes. However, profit fell 59% from the previous quarter as intense rainfall and elevated costs squeezed margins.
Nuvoco Vistas navigated a quarter of contrasts. While a 78% year-on-year jump in profit to ₹65 crore shows a business growing on higher cement sales, a steep 59% drop from the previous quarter reveals the pressure of a difficult operating season. The story of the September quarter is one of volume growth fighting a margin squeeze.
Revenue for the quarter stood at ₹2,790 crore, up 13.5% from a year ago but down 10.8% from the strong June quarter. Profit followed the same pattern, landing at ₹64.8 crore. This pushed the net profit margin to 2.3%, a sharp contraction from 5.1% in Q1 FY27.

The sequential profit decline wasn't due to weak volumes. According to CNBC-TV18, cement sales grew 9% year-on-year to 4.7 million tonnes. The issue was cost. Management cited intense and erratic rainfall in key markets, supply chain disruptions, and elevated input costs from geopolitical uncertainty.
These factors prevented the company from fully passing on higher costs, compressing profitability. The Economic Times reported that total expenses rose to ₹2,685 crore. While finance costs fell year-on-year, the operating environment was the dominant headwind.
One segment provided a bright spot. The ready-mix concrete (RMC) and other businesses, as per The Economic Times, turned profitable with a segment result of ₹4 crore, compared to a loss of ₹7.4 crore in the same quarter last year. This diversification into value-added building materials is starting to pay off.

Capacity expansion also continued. The company commissioned a 2 million tonnes per annum grinding unit at its Limla plant in Surat during the quarter, a step toward its target of 35 MTPA capacity by FY28.
For the coming quarters, the key question is whether Nuvoco can regain pricing power. The industry saw some price increases in September, but their sustainability depends on a post-monsoon demand recovery. Management's focus remains on premiumisation, supply chain efficiency, and project execution to navigate cost pressures.
Key Points
The quarter underscores Nuvoco's operational resilience in a tough season, with volume growth and a turnaround in its RMC division. However, the margin compression is a clear signal that cost pressures are real and persistent.
The path ahead depends on two forces: the industry's ability to hold on to recent price hikes in a recovering market, and Nuvoco's own execution in ramping up its new western capacity efficiently. If demand strengthens as expected post-monsoon, the company is positioned to benefit, but its margin recovery will be a gradual climb, not a sudden leap.
