A warehouse fire and a swing in inventory costs compressed margins, overshadowing a modest 5.4% revenue growth for the water treatment component supplier.
Filtra Consultants' Q2 FY27 profit fell 52% YoY to ₹1 crore despite revenue rising to ₹50 crore. A fire-related inventory loss and a shift in working capital costs severely impacted profitability, though operating cash flow improved.
For Filtra Consultants, a supplier of membranes and pumps for industrial water treatment, the September quarter was defined by a warehouse fire. The incident destroyed inventory worth ₹69.38 lakh, according to a scanx.trade report, turning modest top-line growth into a severe profit contraction.
The numbers show a clear disconnect. Revenue grew 5.4% year-on-year to ₹50 crore, but net profit collapsed by 52.4% to just ₹1 crore. The net profit margin shrank to 2%, down 240 basis points from the same quarter last year.

The fire at its Pune godown was the primary culprit. The exceptional loss of ₹69.38 lakh, as reported by scanx.trade, flowed directly through the profit statement. Compounding this was a swing in inventory costs. Last year, a reduction in stock added to income, while this year building stock added to expenses, squeezing margins further.
Operationally, the picture was more stable. The company's core water treatment business operates in a market projected to grow at a 7% CAGR through 2032, per Markntel Advisors. This underlying demand likely supported the revenue increase, though Filtra itself shows no signs of major expansion.
Despite the profit plunge, working capital management improved. Scanx.trade notes net operating cash flow turned positive at ₹2.24 crore for the half-year, against an outflow last year. Cash balances also nearly doubled to ₹3.13 crore by September end.
This financial stability, coupled with a debt-free balance sheet, provides a buffer. Management, however, has not provided new growth guidance. A StockFin.ai analysis suggests the company is in a "mature phase," focusing on dividends rather than expansion.
Key Points
This quarter's story is one of operational resilience undermined by a one-off shock. The underlying business delivered modest growth, and the balance sheet remains robust. The insurance claim for the fire loss was accepted in October, suggesting a partial recovery in subsequent quarters. The key question is whether Filtra can leverage its solid financial position to capture more of the sector's growth, or if it remains content as a stable, dividend-focused player in a fragmented market.
