The IT services firm posted 17.5% revenue growth but saw its profit margin contract, weighed down by acquisition costs and investments for future deals.
Mphasis started FY27 with robust 17.5% revenue growth, yet net profit fell sequentially. The quarter highlights a trade-off: strong AI-led deal wins are driving the top line, but integration costs and strategic investments are squeezing near-term profitability.
Mphasis entered its new fiscal year with a clear signal that growth is back on the menu. The IT services firm reported a robust 17.5% year-on-year jump in revenue, powered by a fifth straight quarter of strong deal wins. Yet, the bill for that expansion arrived promptly, as profitability took a sequential hit, revealing the cost of building for the future.
The numbers tell a story of two speeds. Revenue reached ₹4,384.05 crore, up 3.3% from the previous quarter. Profit after tax, however, slipped 3.9% sequentially to ₹489.51 crore. The net profit margin contracted to 11.2%, down 60 basis points from a year ago and 80 points from the March quarter.

| Revenue (₹ Cr) | 4,384.05 | 4,242.67 |

Management, cited by outlets like QuarterMark and SAHI, pointed to two main cost pressures. About 35 basis points of the margin squeeze came from integrating the recent acquisition of Theory and Practice (TAP). The rest was an investment in building delivery capacity and lower utilization ahead of expected demand. In essence, Mphasis is spending now to capture the growth from its record $461 million in new contract wins, 63% of which were AI-led.
The revenue growth itself was broad-based. According to an Investing.com analysis of the investor presentation, the Americas region drove the expansion with an 11.4% YoY rise. The Banking and Financial Services vertical, the company's largest, grew 9.4% YoY, while Insurance surged 17.8%.
The critical question is how long this margin pressure lasts. Management has held its full-year EBIT margin guidance steady at 14.75%-15.75%, expressing confidence that the current costs are temporary investments. They have set a high bar for the next quarter, projecting Q2 will deliver the strongest sequential constant-currency growth in three years.
The promise is that accelerating revenue will absorb the upfront costs. However, working capital showed some strain, with Days Sales Outstanding rising to 95 days. The company expects this to improve through the year, but it underscores the cash flow impact of funding new, large deals.
Key Points
This quarter frames the classic growth-versus-profitability trade-off. Mphasis is demonstrably winning in the market, with its AI-led Tria platform resonating and the deal pipeline at a record high. The 70% AI-led pipeline, as reported by Investing.com, suggests this momentum is structural.
The squeeze, therefore, looks like a planned cost of scaling. The risk is one of timing: if the projected Q2 revenue acceleration is softer than expected, the margin band could be tested, and the 'investment' narrative would weaken. For now, the market is being asked to trust that today's margin compression is the direct fuel for tomorrow's growth engine.
