Hyundai Motor India reported a 35.1% year-on-year decline in profit for Q1 FY27, with revenue also dipping slightly. The company's net profit margin fell significantly from the same period last year.

Hyundai Motor India's first-quarter earnings for FY27 reveal a significant squeeze on profitability. While revenue was nearly flat compared to last year, profit fell sharply, indicating intense pressure on the automaker's bottom line.

The company reported revenue of ₹16,334.63 crore for the quarter ended June 2026, a marginal 0.5% decline from Q1 FY26. Profit, however, plummeted 35.1% year-on-year to ₹888.62 crore. This sharp divergence pushed the net profit margin down to 5.4%, a substantial drop of 290 basis points from the 8.3% margin recorded in the same quarter last year. The sequential performance was also weak, with both revenue and profit declining from the preceding March quarter.

A look at the recent quarterly trajectory shows profitability has been on a declining trend.

Key Points

  • The trailing twelve-month (TTM) net profit margin stands at 7.0%, still above the latest quarter's figure but well below the peak seen in Q2 FY26.
  • Despite the earnings pressure, the company maintains a robust balance sheet with very low debt (Debt-to-Equity of 0.05) and strong return metrics (ROE of 29.92%).
  • The stock trades close to its industry's valuation, with a P/E of 26.6, reflecting a near-parity premium of 0.6%.

This quarter's results underscore the challenge of maintaining profitability in a competitive market, even for a leader like Hyundai. The focus now shifts to whether the company's ongoing pivot towards EVs and hybrids can reignite earnings growth in the coming periods.
