Hind Aluminium Profit Halves Despite a Five-Fold Revenue Jump

A strategic acquisition drove a 405% revenue surge, but profitability was cut in half by rising costs and a high year-ago base.

Hind Aluminium's Q1 revenue multiplied five times year-on-year, yet net profit fell by 51%. The quarter's story is a strategic pivot, not an operational one.

For Hind Aluminium Industries, the first quarter was a story of two diverging lines. The company's revenue multiplied more than five times from a year ago, signaling a major strategic shift. Yet, the bottom line tells a different tale, with net profit nearly halving, revealing the cost of that pivot.

The numbers lay out the contrast. Revenue for Q1 FY27 surged to ₹5.36 crore, a staggering 405.7% increase from the ₹1.06 crore reported in Q1 FY26. Sequentially, it rebounded 354.2% from a weak Q4. However, net profit fell to ₹1.91 crore, down 51.0% from the ₹3.90 crore earned a year ago. The net profit margin for the quarter stood at 35.6%.

The acquisition behind the revenue leap

The surge in the top line was not from the company's traditional wire rods business. According to a report from StockScans, the company acquired the 'Elesar Focchi' aluminium doors and windows business from a promoter-group entity on a slump-sale basis during the quarter. This new downstream segment contributed the bulk of the revenue. InvestyWise data shows the Aluminium Products segment, which now includes this business, generated ₹5.13 crore of the quarter's ₹5.36 crore total revenue.

Why profit fell as revenue rose

Two primary forces squeezed profitability. First, expenses grew even faster than sales. Total expenses, as reported by Kotak Neo, soared 146.4% year-on-year to ₹4.83 crore. Second, the year-ago quarter's profit of ₹3.90 crore was flattered by a significant contribution from other income, which included a ₹1.70 crore share of profit from an associate company in Oman, as noted by ScanX. While this associate still contributed in Q1 FY27, the base effect made the annual comparison stark.

A pivot with near-term costs

The company's shift from commodity wire rods to branded downstream products like doors and windows is a clear strategic redirection. The near-term financial impact, however, is a margin squeeze as it integrates the new business. The trailing-twelve-month net profit margin is 32.2%, but this quarter's 35.6% is well below the 79.1% margin reported for the full year FY26, which was heavily influenced by one-off items.

The stock has had a strong run, gaining 57.9% over the past year and closing at ₹98.56 on results day. It trades at a P/E of 9.5, a 26.9% discount to its industry peer average of 12.9.

Key Points

  • Revenue surged over 400% year-on-year to ₹5.36 crore, primarily driven by the acquisition of a downstream aluminium doors and windows business.
  • Net profit declined 51% to ₹1.91 crore, pressured by a 146% jump in total expenses and a high-profit base in the year-ago quarter.
  • The company's strategic focus has shifted from commodity wire rods to branded downstream aluminium products.
  • The net profit margin for the quarter was 35.6%, while the stock trades at a P/E discount to the industry average.

Hexa Perspective

The quarter marks a fundamental reset for Hind Aluminium, trading volatile commodity-linked revenue for a downstream, branded business model. The immediate financial trade-off is clear: vastly higher sales at significantly lower margins. The sustainability of this new trajectory hinges on the integration and scaling of the acquired business without further cost overruns. Investors are weighing the strategic promise of this pivot against the evident near-term dilution in profitability and the company's history of reliance on non-operational income.
