DCB Bank (DCBBANK) Q2 FY27 Profit Jumps 28.5% as Lower Provisions Lift Margins

The private lender's net profit surged on sharply lower credit costs and improving asset quality, though revenue growth was more measured.

DCB Bank's Q2 FY27 profit rose 28.5% year-on-year to ₹236 crore, significantly outpacing a 12.5% revenue increase. The growth was driven by a steep fall in provisions as asset quality improved.

DCB Bank delivered another quarter of strong bottom-line growth, but the story is one of quality over quantity. Profit surged well ahead of revenue, pointing to a sharp improvement in credit costs rather than a surge in core operating performance.

The numbers show the split. Revenue grew a steady 12.5% year-on-year to ₹2,050 crore. Net profit, however, leapt 28.5% to ₹236 crore. The net profit margin expanded by 140 basis points to 11.5%.

A provision-led profit boost

Research from Stockwatch.live suggests the profit jump was overwhelmingly provision-led. In the prior quarter, operating profit before provisions grew just 5.2% year-on-year, while provisions and contingencies fell by roughly 50%. This swing essentially accounted for the entire profit uplift.

The bank's asset quality has steadily improved, creating room for lower credit costs. Gross NPA improved to 2.43% in Q1, according to StockFin, and net NPA stood at a healthy 0.84%. This clean-up provided a powerful, if potentially one-time, tailwind to earnings.

Can operating leverage take over?

The question for the coming quarters is whether core operations can drive growth now that credit costs are already low. Management, cited by StockFin, targets a return on equity of 13.5% in FY27 and 14.5% in FY28. Hitting these goals requires sustained revenue momentum and operating efficiency.

Advances grew 17% year-on-year in Q1, slightly below the bank's 18-20% guidance noted by Inve.money. A key focus is improving the mix, with management expecting higher-yield mortgages to contribute more in the coming quarters, as per a Q1 earnings call transcript.

Funding growth with fresh capital

The bank is preparing for its next growth phase. CFO Ravi Kumar told ETCFO the board has approved a capital raise of ₹1,500 crore, expected before the end of calendar 2026. This will fund expansion while the bank's capital adequacy ratio, already strong at 17.03%, provides a cushion.

Branch expansion remains modest at about 25-30 branches per year, with a greater emphasis on digital investments and AI, according to the same interview.

Key Points

  • Net profit grew 28.5% year-on-year, significantly faster than the 12.5% rise in revenue, due to a sharp reduction in provisions.
  • Asset quality improved, with gross and net NPAs reaching multi-year lows, creating a benign credit cost environment.
  • Future profit sustainability hinges on core operating leverage, including loan growth meeting guidance and a shift to higher-yielding assets like mortgages.
  • The bank has a planned capital raise of up to ₹1,500 crore to fund growth, with a strong existing capital adequacy ratio of 17.03%.

Hexa Perspective

DCB Bank's quarter showcases the powerful earnings lift that follows an asset quality cycle. The challenge now is transition. With provisions already at low levels, the easy gains are likely behind it.

The path to its targeted ROE relies on executing calibrated loan growth, managing funding costs, and seeing its investments in digital and mortgages pay off. The planned capital raise adds fuel, but also introduces potential dilution. The stock's discount to the industry PE reflects the market's wait for evidence that this next phase of growth is both durable and high-quality.
