Ashok Leyland's Q1 FY27 earnings show a sharp quarterly profit decline despite modest yearly growth. Revenue increased 11.6% YoY but fell 24.2% sequentially.

Ashok Leyland's first-quarter earnings for FY27 present a mixed picture, marked by a significant sequential slowdown. While revenue grew modestly compared to last year, profit took a sharp hit from the previous quarter, highlighting pressure on profitability.

The commercial vehicle manufacturer reported revenue of ₹13,069.59 crore for Q1 FY27, an 11.6% increase from the same period last year. However, this figure represents a 24.2% decline from the strong ₹17,246.44 crore posted in Q4 FY26. Profit followed a similar but more pronounced pattern, rising a slight 1.5% year-on-year to ₹667.77 crore but plummeting 51.7% quarter-on-quarter. This resulted in a net profit margin of 5.1%, down from 8.0% in the prior quarter and 5.6% a year ago.

  • The company maintains a high return on equity (RoE) of 28.19%, a sign of efficient capital use for shareholders.
  • The stock has delivered a strong 40.7% return over the past year, significantly outperforming its 3-year trend.

Ashok Leyland's valuation, at a P/E of 26.1, trades slightly below its industry average, reflecting the market's assessment of its near-term earnings challenges. The key question for the coming quarters is whether this profit squeeze is a seasonal dip or a sign of sustained margin pressure.
