Alkem's Full-Year Growth Overshadowed by Sharp Q4 Profit Drop

Alkem Laboratories posted strong annual revenue growth, but a steep quarterly profit decline and margin compression raise near-term concerns.

Alkem's FY26 revenue grew 13.5%, yet Q4 profit fell 22% YoY. The quarterly net profit margin contracted sharply, highlighting significant profitability pressures.

Alkem Laboratories closed its fiscal year with a tale of two halves: robust full-year growth overshadowed by a sharp and concerning contraction in quarterly profitability. While the company's annual revenue climbed 13.5% to ₹14,712 crore, its fourth-quarter performance tells a different story, with profit after tax plunging 22.1% year-on-year despite a 14.6% rise in sales.

The quarterly numbers reveal a significant squeeze on margins. The net profit margin for Q4 FY26 fell to just 7.0%, a drop of 330 basis points from the same quarter last year and a steep decline from the 17-20% range seen in the first three quarters of the year. This sequential weakening is stark, as shown in the recent quarterly performance:

For the full year, profit growth of 6.3% lagged well behind the revenue increase, confirming that margin pressures were a theme throughout FY26. This divergence between top-line expansion and bottom-line delivery points to rising costs or one-time expenses that eroded earnings.

Key Points

  • The company maintains a strong balance sheet with a low debt-to-equity ratio of 0.12 and a healthy Return on Equity (ROE) of 18.29%.
  • Over a five-year horizon, Alkem has delivered steady compounding, with revenue and profit growing at CAGRs of 8.5% and 8.8%, respectively.
  • The stock trades at a P/E of 27.5, a notable discount to the industry average P/E of 37.4.

The full-year results demonstrate Alkem's underlying business strength, but the dramatic Q4 profit drop demands attention. The coming quarters will be crucial for the company to demonstrate it can restore its historically stronger profitability levels.
