Cipla's Q1 FY27 shows a stark divergence: revenue grew modestly, but profit plunged 39% year-on-year. A sharp 760 basis point drop in net profit margin highlights ongoing profitability pressures.

Cipla's first-quarter results for FY27 reveal a company grappling with a significant profitability squeeze. While revenue showed modest growth, profit took a steep dive compared to the same period last year, pointing to sustained pressure on margins.

The numbers tell a clear story of divergence. Revenue for the quarter ended June 2026 came in at ₹7,119 crore, a 2.3% increase from Q1 FY26. However, profit after tax (PAT) fell sharply by 39.2% to ₹786 crore. This resulted in a net profit margin of just 11%, a substantial drop of 760 basis points from the 18.6% margin reported a year ago. The sequential view offers some relief, with an 8.8% revenue increase and a 44.8% jump in profit from the low base of the previous quarter (Q4 FY26).

A look at the recent quarterly trajectory shows the pressure has been building.

The table illustrates a clear downtrend in profitability over the past year, with margins in the last three quarters remaining well below the levels seen in the first half of FY26.

Key Points

  • The trailing twelve-month (TTM) net profit margin stands at 11.8%, below the full-year FY26 margin of 13.8%.
  • The company maintains a fortress balance sheet with negligible debt (Debt-to-Equity of 0.01) and a strong interest cover of 97x.
  • The stock trades at a P/E of 25.5, a significant discount to the industry average P/E of 37.2.

Despite the challenging quarterly profit performance, Cipla's revenue base is holding steady and its financial health remains robust. The coming quarters will be crucial for demonstrating whether the company can stem the margin erosion and translate stable sales into stronger bottom-line growth.
